The first equine sale of the season attracted a strong interest for both the official Shetland Pony stud book spring show and sale and the general horse sale at Borderway on Saturday 15th March 2008. A catalogued entry of just over 120 horses came under the hammer.

The Shetland Pony sale included the dispersal sale of the Bantac Stud of miniature Shetland ponies on behalf of Charles Ribbons of Carnforth. Bantac Floejoe, a small blue dun senior mare and daughter of the skewbald stallion Penmorfafarm Mascot was sold for 1,650gns to K Thompson of Thornhill, Dumfriesshire.

The Bantac Stud sold 9 lots over the 1,000gn mark which included the days next leading price of 1,600gns. Bantac Grace a golden dun senior mare and breeder of quality minis, sold as believed to be covered by Mardlebrook Apache the studs senior stallion. She sold to JT Dunn of Morperth, Northumberland.

Two further lots from Bantac sold for 1,500gns each. The first to be sold was Bantac Gold Flair, a yellow dun daughter of Strothersdale Ambrose also sold covered by the studs stallion Apache and went to Messrs Hardiman of Wolfords Stud based in Warwickshire.

The second at 1,500gns was Mardlebrook Apache the studs senior stallion. This tri colour New Park McDuff son carries all New Park breeding and is a perfect gentleman. Apache attracted the bid from GR & P Young of Isel, Cockermouth.

In the general horse section the top price of the event was 1,500gns for an in foal cob measuring upto 14hh. Exhibited by S Swailes of Carlisle and known as Rosie, she sold to GR & M Bell of Roberton, Hawick.

Following at 1,400gns was a bay warm blood 16hh gelding shown by J Knowles of Clitheroe, Lancs. This six year old was knocked down to Mark McCallie of Beattock, Moffat.

Close behind at 1,200gns was a cob filly consigned by Keith Fulton of Branthwaite, Workington. This 14.2hh black filly known as Pippa was also sold to GR & M Bell of Hawick.
