PEDIGREE HOLSTEIN FEMALES & BULLS
Wednesday 15th October 2008

BORDER & LAKELAND HOLSTEIN SHOW & SALE

With Scotland not being put on the same regime as the rest of the UK for Blue Tongue status until the 3rd November, this month’s club sale had reduced numbers forward. Not only were Scot’s buyers absent but several regular Scottish vendors too.
However the trade, although hard to fathom out at times was very respectable, averaging just over £1500 for a virtual 100% sell out.

Netherside Missy 26
Champion Pictured (L to R) - Ian from Sponsors Barclays, Netherside Missy 26, Tom Yuill (Jnr), Ken Mawson “Baileyground”

Top price, at 2400gns was a very smart, nicely bred fresh heifer from Mesr M&C Ralston, Rhoin Farm, Campbeltown, who have earned a great reputation in Carlisle since their sale about five years ago. The heifer, a worthy 1st prize winner was by Picston Shaker from a VG Jordan dam with excellent fat and protein yields. Local dairy farmers Messrs Sanderson from Burtholme were the successful buyers, as indeed they were for the second highest price heifer at 2200gns. This daughter of Woodmarsh Chameleon (Calbrett HH Champion x Woodmarsh Mtoto Melody EX92) had won the championship under judge, and club president, Ken Mawson of Seascale, and was bred and shown by Scottish breeders Tom Yuill and family. This fresh heifer was from their great breeding family, the Leads and like the top price heifer sported great components on its pedigree.

Wormanby Atom Gloriette
Reserve Champion (L to R) - Ian from Sponsors Barclays,
Wormanby Atom Gloriette, Harry Hodgson, Ken Mawson “Baileyground”

The Reserve Champion came from one of the top local breeders, Messrs Hodgson from Wormanby, who also turned out the third highest price heifer. This stylish heifer was sired by Wormanby Marty, a son of Stouder Morty and from 11456kg Holmeden Leduc Mahala VG87. She was successfully purchased by Bowness Farms from Threapland Lees for 1920gns.
