The Orton Grange herd of pedigree Holstein cattle was dispersed on Thursday 15th May 2008 at Orton Grange Farm. The sale comprised of some tremendous animals by leading sires such as Picston Shottle, Calbrett Champion and Roylane Jordan, there was also a super selection of Red and White Holsteins and Danish Reds that sold to a high of 3,400gns. The ring side was packed mainly from locals and friends who supported the sale very well with volume buyers coming from outside the county.

Top price from the Orton Grange sale was matched twice for two classy animals. First to make 3,400gns was Picston Shottle daughter Ortongrange Shottle Surefire. This beautiful uddered heifer descended from the Sweet family with nine generations of Excellent or Very Good dams in the pedigree. She sold freshly calved in April and now joins one of the UK’s leading herds owned by N&SJ Sanderson, Burtholme Farm, Lanercost, Brampton. Mr Sanderson also purchased second top price at 2,900gns, again this was for a Shottle daughter with a classy North American pedigree. Ortongrange Shottle Liza had fantastic cow making potential with a fancy udder and immature frame that will only improve with time.

Selling for 3,400gns in joint top price was a Red with style. Littonfields Lakeside Jazz Red VG85 (2yr) sired by Roesbett Lakeside and from eight generations of Excellent or Very Good classified Red dams. She sold in calf to Buckhorn Acres Aragron a young Advent son who is showing a lot of promise, Jazz was puchesed by AJ Ewing on behalf of a Client.

Another Red and White that caught the eye was a fancy heifer by Carrousel Regiment. She was classified Good Plus 84 and had potential; to devolpe into a very nice cow. This heifer was purchased for 2,800gns by Miss E Manager, White Horse Lane, Dumfries.

Danish Reds sold to a top of 2,300 for a fresly calved heifer with an almost perfect udder. She was purchased by WTC Farms, Old Grange Farm, Hutton, Nr Preston. The Danish Red animals averaged £1895.83 with interest in these coming from all over the UK.
