Almondene
Spring Sensation Sale
Thursday 17th April 2008 |
| Report |
One of the best herds of Pedigree Holstein cattle in
the North of England went under the hammer on the 17th April 2008 at
Almonds Farm, Preston. The Almondene herd was bred and owned by Frank
Lawson who over the years had developed a fantastic herd of Holsteins
mainly by the use of herd sires bred from some of the top cows and families
in the breed.
Topping the sale was a youthful two year old from the much admired Biddy
family. She oozed style and class and must be one to look out for in
the future. She was purchased by leading Irish breeder Ivan Robinson
owner of the Ravara Herd for 4000gns. After the sale Mr Robinson said “… we
are trying to build on our recent success in the show ring and this young
two year old will fit in perfect with our other champions.”
The Lawrie brothers from Grange Hall, Lanark purchased the second top
price for 3,400gns. This was for a daughter of Regancrest Emory Derry
from the famous Blackstar Raven family.
Neighbouring breeder J. Burrow from the famous Stardale Herd bought a
beautiful heifer for 3,100gns. She was sired by Hilltara Midnight who
is a grandson of Medway Supreme Maude EX 97 who has won numerous championships
over the years.
Selling for 2,800gns was a daughter of the Dairy Event Champion in 2000
Gerdorth Benefit Sarah EX 94. She was sired by Stormatic classified Excellent
90 and giving almost 50kgs. This great young cow now joins the herd of
EM & E Pattinson & Son Walby Hall, Carlisle.
Sired by Almondene Nevada and going back to the dam of Boulet Charles
was a nice two year old selling for 2750gns. Almondene Classify GP 83
had six generations of Excellent of Very Good cows in the pedigree and
now joins the herd of D.J. Hughes Clayhanger Hall, Cheshire.
The sale was also helped by volume buyers from across the country and
the Isle of Man. Frank Lawson would like to wish everyone who purchased
all the best in the future with the animals.
