BORDERWAY
PRIZE SHOW & SALE OF SUCKLED CALVES
Saturday 6th October 2007

At Borderway Mart on Saturday, Harrison & Hetherington held their Annual Autumn Show & Sale of suckled calves. A fantastic entry of 1,896 cattle were forward for sale. Trade though being slightly back on year was still buoyant, with a packed ring of bidders battling to purchase excellent quality cattle.

The show was judged by Mr Roger Brazier of Lemborough, Buckinghamshire who awarded the Champion prize to J Lee & Sons of Agars Hill, Whitfield, Hexham for a black 5 month old Limousin cross heifer. This smart heifer by the registered Limousin bull, Greenfield Topper and out of a Belgian Blue cross Limousin mother, sold for £1,400 to Messrs Bonsall of Ashbourne, Derbyshire.

The Reserve Champion ticket was won by T H Harrison & Sons, Sleddale Hall with his Blonde cross steer which sold for £900 and was purchased by Farmtec UK, Coat House Farm.

Topping the sale at £2,800 was a Limousin cross red heifer shown by Robert and Michael Scott of Thirlwall Castle, Greenhead. This greatly admired heifer, a daughter of the registered Limousin bull Cloughhead Titanic, attracted keen competition and was sold to show enthusiast Neil Slack of Newby, Penrith.
