HAFODLAS TOPS YOUNGSTOCK SALE A bid of 4,200gns for a heifer calf from Messrs AW & GW Roberts, Ysbyty Ifan, Betws-Y-Coed led the Limousin Youngstock Sale held on Wednesday 23rd May 2007. With further quality consignments from the Beck, Hudscales, Dolcorsllwyn, Trigwr, Shieldrigg, Pikestrone, Cwm, Witton, Cawfields, Cilgwyn, Griseburn and Terrace herds, this annual event drew a good crowd and resulted in a near total clearance.
Leading the trade was the May 2006 born Hafodlas Beren sired by the French bull Saphir and out of the homebred dam Hafodlas Seren, a Hafodlas Llion daughter. A tremendous yearling heifer sporting a Beef Value of LM+31 she heads to an undisclosed buyer for 4,200gns. Two further lots presented by the Roberts went under the hammer for 2,600gns and 1,900gns respectively: Balnacraig Buzzbee, a rising year old bull calf, sired by Ryedale Paragon and out of Balnacraig May, was knocked down to J & S Allen, 158 Fyfin Road, Victoria Bridge, Strabane, Co Tyrone, N Ireland for 2,600gns; Hafodlas Broc, a Saphir son and out of the first calver Hafodlas Undod sold for 1,900gns to NA & J Temple, Blackhall Farm, Ulpha, Broughton in Furness, Cumbria. The Hudscales consignment from Messrs W&A Cowx, Hesket-New-Market, Cumbria saw 8 bulls average a very healthy £1,745. Top of the bunch were two Gunnerfleet Talker sired yearling bulls: first of these was Hudscales Buster who is out of a homebred dam, Hudscales Rose, when selling for 2,500gns to W & I Coulthard & Son, Davy Gill, Croglin, Carlisle, Cumbria; Herries Farms, Bow House Farm, Glencaple, Dumfries paid the same sum for Hudscales Bullet out of Hudscales Romance. Later in the catalogue, Hudscales Bullet hit the 2,000gns mark when going under the hammer to RJ & LM Raine, Ravenwood Farm, Renwick, Penrith, Cumbria. A heifer calf from Mr TA Horn’s Griseburn pedigree Herd at Great Asby, Appleby, Cumbria met with keen interest when eventually purchased for 2,800gns. Griseburn Beryl is by Ballinloan Rascal and out of Cloughhead Ruby. New owners are D & M Kelly, Nether Hall, Mansergh, Cumbria. Beck Burke, an April 2006 born bull calf, led the consignment from Mr W Hickson, Knarrside Farm, Skipton Old Road, Colne, Lancs. Sired by Louxor and out of Beck Mildred, a shapely 1996 born cow by Berrichon, he was purchased by an undisclosed buyer for 1,900gns.
