Solid trade for Carlisle Charolais
Christmas Cracker females top at 9,000gns; bulls to 6,200gns
Charolais bulls met a solid trade peaking at 6,200gns in Carlisle on
Friday 23 November 2007, at the breed society’s official autumn
fixture.

Sale leader at 6,200gns was the first class prize winner, Newbampton
Ambassador, a two year old by the 12,000gns Mowbraypark Northend and
out of a Mowbraypark cow going back to the noted Paramount. Bred by breed
newcomer David Holliday, Kirkbampton, Carlisle, Ambassador was his first
ever entry to come under the hammer sold and he went to JC Hobday and
Son, Hawick.
Father and son team, Matt and Craig Ridley, Hesket Newmarket, Wigton
sold Haltcliffe Bill for the next highest bid of 3,600gns to R Reid,
Strathaven, Lanark. This 17 month old was by Corrie Ultrasonic who goes
back to the 10,500gns Gretnahouse Noel and out of a Corrie bred cow by
Allanfauld Vagabond.
The Blyth family, Roy, Jean, Neil and Kirsty, Elwick, Hartlepool offered
their best at 3,500gns to IHG Warden, Hawick. Marwood Brilliant, who
was placed second in his class, was an 18 month old within the breed’s
top 10% on mucle area, by their 15,000gns intermediate Perth champion,
Inverlochy Passport and out of a homebred cow by Killadeas Jack.
Two lots shared a 3,200gns bid. First to go was Hallbankgate Beno, a
19 month old from father and son team, Tom and Ian Bell, Hallbankgate,
Brampton to J and TJ Lee, Hexham. An Edenhurst Pioneer son, Beno was
out of a homebred cow going by Brampton Imperial.
The day’s second 3,200gns call was made by IH Jones, Caernarfon,
Gwynedd for the first class prize winner, Trannon Boss, a Doonally New
son from John Williams, Caersws, Powys.
Will Oates, Ouston, Chester-le-Street offered the May 2006 born Wigginton
Ben for 3,000gns to A Davies, Llanfynydd, Carmarthenshire. Bred by ME
and M Askin, Ben was a Maerdy Thunder son and out of a Moynton sired
cow.
Another 18 month old, this time from Mick and Jean Hayhurst, of Kirkbymisperton,
Malton sold for 3,000gns. Their Whitecliffe Bunny who earlier on had
been awarded the overall reserve title, was a Dingle Hofmeister son and
out of a cow going back to Cliftonpark lines. He was knocked down sold
to IR and D Jones, Corwen, Denbighshire.

The Christmas Cracker section
of females was led at 9,000gns by the much admired two year old heifer,
Moynton Annabel who was no stranger to the limelight having collected
several titles including reserve female at the Royal earlier this year.
Bred by PC Old, Owermoigne, Dorchester and turned out by herd manager,
Mike Yeandle, she was regarded as the best ever female bred within the
35 cow herd since it was established 21 years ago. Annabel was by Dingle
Hofmeister, out of Seawell Ember who had already produced a 6,800gns
heifer, she was within the breed’s top 10%
for 400 day weight and 1% for eye muscle and PD’d in calf to the
45,000gns Perth champion, Thrunton Ideal. She was secured as the foundation
female for Ryder Farming’s new pedigree Charolais herd based at
Annan Water, Moffat.
Minutes later, Ryder Farming went to 5,500gns for its second female,
Trefaldwyn Athena, a two year old maiden bred and exhibited by Arwel
Owen, Foel, Welshpool. She was by Tullygarley Rollerball and out of a
homebred cow by Maerdy Grimaldi.
Andrew Hornall, Stirling took home the Christmas Cracker silverware awarded
to his two heifer entries both by Mortimers Tebay, a son of the celebrated
Burke trophy winner, Mowbraypark Gigi and PD’d in calf to Royal
Welsh reserve junior interbreed winner, Gower Armarni. The supreme title
went to Falleninch Angel, a July 2005 born entry out Falleninch Tegan,
a Royal Highland junior champion. Angel made 3,200gns to W Holloway,
Kirkhill, Lancashire.
Angel’s stable mate, the Angust 2006 born Falleninch Amazing collected
the reserve supreme title and sold for 4,000gns to AE Neachell and Son,
Aldridge, Walsall. Amazing was out of Shoyswell Toyah, a Royal Highland
first class winner.
