ANGUS FEMALES IN DEMAND

Quality females sold well at the spring show and sale held at the Bristol Sales Centre on behalf of the Aberdeen Angus society.

Topping the selected female section at 1,550gns was a maiden heifer shown by the Quinn family of Taunton, Somerset. Their home bred heifer, Maplejacks Cherry Bee an April 2005 born daughter of Rawburn Transformer and out of a Carhurlie Exuberant sired daughter, sold to Northern Ireland breeder Adrian McElroy for his Glenross herd, based near Co.Fermanagh

The events overall champion, Adstock Early Blossom a second calver with her bull calf at foot, sold for 1,500gns. Consigned by Buckingham breeders Adstock Angus, Blossom a daughter of Patchell 4th of Ladeside, she joins the Allabury herd for Klean Cattle of Launceston, Cornwall.

The first entry into the sale ring, also came from the Maplejacks herd a maiden heifer from the AK & G Quinn. Maplejacks Frances another Transformer daughter and out of the home bred mother sired by Tegsnose Karman. Frances sold for 1,200gns going to D McCormick of Co.Fermanagh, Northern Ireland

Also selling for 1,200gns was a incalf cow shown by regular consigner Archie Smith-Maxwell of Upton on Severn, Worcester. Carrying her fourth calf, Findhorn Elstree Eriskay by Pidono of Haymount, she also travels to Northern Ireland for Adrian McElroy

Topping the sale was a substitute bull entry shown by Lockerley Hall Farm based in Hampshire. Lockerley Easy Tiger, a 25 month old son of Netherton Krackerjack and out of a Netherton Eastern Cruz bred daughter, he was purchased for 2,400gns by TR Wolfe of Stevenage

Following closely and selling for 2,300gns was Dark Lane Proud Lord sold by NJ & B Pittams of Cwmbrook, Brecon. This February 2005 born son of Netherton Black Cruz sold to NH & J Wheeler of Chipping Campden

Selected Females: 1 served heifer £787.50, 4 maiden heifers £1,168.13, 4 cows served and/or suckling £1,155.00;
Other Collective Females: 17 cows served and/or suckling £622.59, 5 served heifers £459.90, 6 maiden heifers £579.25; Bulls: 4 head £1,811.25.
