at Newton Rigg Equestrian Centre, Penrith At the first Performance Equine Sale to be held in the North West area, Cumbrian based auctioneers Harrison & Hetherington Limited conducted the sale with great enthusiasm. A catalogue entry of nearly fifty of show standard ponies and horses were offered for sale and drew enormous interest from all over the country. Leading this prestigious event was a grey gelding consigned by Evelyn Richardson of Lockerbie. Selling for 2,300gns was a four year old part bred Connemara measuring approximately 14.2 hh. This lovely young pony who has the potential to be a good all rounder was sold to Mr R Davison from Cramlington in Northumberland. One of the early entries to enter the sale ring was sold up to 2,000gns for a two year old chestnut filly shown by Mr David Aylwood of Coldstream, Berwickshire. Border Grove Ace’s Affair a thorough bred cross Hanoverian, has the future to be a quality show working hunter and also bred to do dressage, show jumping and event is bred from a head stud book mare who has won numerous championships. The successful purchaser was Mrs Fiona Hislop from Langholm, Dumfriesshire. Also selling up to 2,000gns was a four year old chestnut mare shown by Mr John Fleming of Hightae, Lockerbie. Wood Foot Lightning has the making to have a great potential caught the eye of many spectators and was finally knocked down to Mr L Philipson of Blaydon, Tyne & Wear. The last entry to be offered in the arena also sold for 2,000gns. Ridden and shown by Val Irwin of Newton Reigny, Penrith her 12 year old bay mare known as Carole was shown with extreme style and has been placed in unaffiliated dressage competitions to date. She now travels into Scotland and was purchased by Mr M Taylor of Cartland in Lanarkshire. Topping the entries consigned by the Rosslayne Stud based at Kirkpatrick Fleming, Lockerbie, was Rosslayne Maybe a spectacular 4 year old dark brown/black mare. Bred from an established family of champion ponies, this head turning filly captured the attention of many enthusiasts but was finally sold to Mr J Goulding of Cockermouth.
