KINNIMONTH AYRSHIRE CATTLE
Wednesday 24th October 2007
For Thomas Paul & Sons, Kinnimonth Farm, Kinglassie, Fife

“Non-Pedigree Dairy Cattle Records Smashed”

One of the finest herds of cattle of any dairy breed to come under the hammer at Borderway Mart on Wednesday, 24th October 2007.

The “Kinninmonth” herd of 300 Ayrshires belonging to Messrs T Paul of Kinglassie, Fife was dispersed.

Glyn Lucas, of H&H said “We all know that because the optimism and confidence in the dairy industry is high and the supply of dairy cattle of all ages unable to meet demand, trade generally is brisk. But the phenomenal success of the sale was due to the supreme quality of the cattle.
“Okay,” continued Mr Lucas “ they were non-pedigree, and not officially milk recorded, but it didn’t matter a jot, because it was plain for the whole, huge crowd to see that the cows displayed dairy quality, shape, longevity and glorious udders. All a result of very clever breeding and devoted management.”
“I am pretty sure that many of the buyers will now set about registering their purchases in the pedigree herd book and developing great breeding families from them, they deserve it.”
“The life-by-life average of nearly 300 head, including followers and calvers of £1050, with cows and heifers with heifer calves at foot levelling at well over £1500 a piece, is a reflection, not only of this super herd but of the trade for all kinds of dairy stock at Carlisle.” Said Mr Lucas.

There were eight animals over 2000gns including an unregistered young bull at 3300gns. Fresh heifers topped at 2600gns, for a stylish heifer sired by Morwick Sand Ranger. The top price paid for cows was 2,500gns for a fresh young cow sired by a homebred bull, Karl. Numerous young heifer calves were making between 500 and 700gns and in calf and bulling in equal demand selling between 1200 an 1500gns.
