Wednesday 25th April 2007

The Special Spring Sale of Coloured Breeds including The Lake Counties Jersey Cattle Club, Gold Top Sale and consignments of Red & White cattle was held at Borderway Mart on Wednesday 25th April 2007.

The trade was exceptionally strong, to the extent that the demand from commercial and pedigree buyers exceeded the supply of both Jerseys and Red & White Cattle.

The top price in the Jersey section was 1120gns for a stylish fresh second calver consigned by Messrs Richardson of Wheelbirks, Stocksfield. Wheelbirks Hot Tuna a daughter of Jas Hot, was successfully purchased by Messrs Watson, Moorhouse Farm, Wigton.

East Yorkshire breeder, JM Waring of Field House Farm, Beverley sold the next leading price of 1020gns. Cherryview Juno Lacey a youthful second calver out of the famous Debrae Ren Lacey, was knocked down to local breeders Messrs F & E Thomlinson, Bolton Park, Wigton.

Regular supporters to the centre J Thompson & Son of Farlam Hill, also secured a four figure price when their home bred cow, Farlam Vanda’s Edna sold for 1000gns. A daughter of Edi Bringal’s Barber and out of the Danish bred Farlam Panda’s Vanda, she was successfully purchased by Messrs Shaw of Sunnyrigg, Longtown.

Kinross breeders Arthur & Susan Lawrie made the successful journey south and secured the leading price in the Ayrshire entries. A fancy fresh heifer Cuthill Towers Miss Nelson lifted the top price of 2000gns. A daughter of McCornick Nelson and out of the 9600kg Cuthill Towers Miss Torpane VG85, Miss Nelson was purchased by T.C Alderson of East Cowton, Northallerton.

The Davidson Family of The Halmyre Herd based at Castle Douglas secured the next leading price at 1280gns, Halmyre Urr Ladybird newly calved in late February caught the eye of Messrs W & N Donald of Lamonby House, Penrith, and was first of four entries they purchased.

The second entry to go Messrs Donald was a second calved cow, Cuthill Towers Pam 27 shown by the Lawrie Family. She went for 1220gns.

The two remaining purchases for Messrs Donald, were both picked up for 1200gns. The first was Cuthill Towers Lintie 48, a Prince Rupert daughter, again from the Lawrie family; and the other entry came from the Davidson family with Halmyre Urr Mayflower 224 a daughter of Knowe First Priority.
