followed by the
Yanwath Dispersal

Wednesday 14th February 2007
Report

Demand still over shadows the supply of freshly calved cows and heifers. This months Border & Lakeland Club show and sale proved this again with an overall average of £1,150. Numbers forward were down on the month, however the quality remained high.

Champion
Supreme Champion - l/r David Black (Paragon sponsor), Willie Bryson (champion winner) Richard Carlile (judge)

The show was judged by local young breeder Richard Carlile from the Becklees herd. He tapped forward Carnduff Carlos Darkeye as his Overall Champion. Fresh since the 22nd January in her second lactation and sired by Ricecrest Carlos, she sold for 1,300gns and joins the famous Ellengrove herd of EM & E Pattinson & Sons of Walby Hall, Crosby on Eden.

Top price was paid for Morwick Roy Pansy from Michael Howie’s highly respected Morwick herd. This beautiful uddered Jordan daughter sold for 1,600gns and joins Neil Sanderson’s herd at Burtholme Farm, Brampton.

Second top price was 1,350gns for a young 2 year old from Skirwith Hall Farms. This Stormatic daughter also had an exceptional udder and joins the herd of MJL Simpson & Son for their Walgate Herd, Kirklinton, Carlisle.

Reserve Champion
Reserve Champion
l/r David Black (Paragon sponsor), Harry Hodgson (reserve champion winner) Richard Carlile (judge)

Harry and Margaret Hodgson from Wormanby Holsteins sold a special heifer sired by Rudolph for 1,300gns. Wormanby Rudolph Ruby descended from two generations of VG dams both displaying tremendous longevity. Rudolph Ruby joins GW & MJ Henderson’s herd at East Bowhill, Annan.

Directly following the club sale saw the first part of the milking portion of the Yanwath herd to disperse. Owned by Messrs JH Altham, Yanwath Hall, Yanwath, Penrith.

The sale consisted of cows and heifers in milk that had calved from the beginning of October onwards plus about 15 head due to calve up to the middle of March.

The Yanwath herd was a very sound group of cattle with deep frames and good feet and legs. Many local people supported the sale with a top price paid for an Aquila Paton Lucente daughter. This recently fresh second calver was purchased by RM Wallace of Balmangan Farm, Dundrennan, Kirkcudbright.

Local breeders, Messrs Brough of Buckabank Farm, Dalston, purchased the second top price of 1,050gns for a very correct second calver sired by Spirando.

Messrs EA Kitching & Co of Glencartholm, Canonbie purchased the largest volume paying a top of 1,000gns for a Comestar Lee daughter due very soon with her third.
