The New Year started of with a quality entry of Pedigree Holsteins for the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club. 60 cows and heifers sold to average £1,124 and a top of 1,650gns purchased by breeders and by large commercial dairies making this sale the number one centre for pedigree dairy cattle in the country.

The show was judged by Brian Kennedy of Stairend Holsteins, Ayrshire. His champion was a substitute entry from Skirwith Hall Farms, Stowbeck Jackson Lillibet. She sold fresh giving 33kgs daily and joins the herd of G & B Stevenson & Sons, Blue House Farm, Cleveland for 1,600gns.

The reserve champion was shown by DI & FM Cannon. Espland Modesto Sonia a daughter of Sikkema-Star-W Modesto giving 32kgs a day and from a high producing family. This heifer sold for 1,250gns and now joins the herd of Mr ID Houston, Torkatrine Farm, Dalbeattie.

Top price of the sale went to the Ingleview herd of R & E Butterfield for a fresh second calver giving 50kgs daily and sired by Robthom Integrity from the heart of their famous Arlene family. Selling for 1,650gns she goes to GW & MJ Henderson of East Bowhill, Annan.

Wolfa Holsteins consigned a tremendous group of heifers from the breeds leading families selling for 1,500gns to an undisclosed buyer. Wolfa Rudolph Glory descended from two excellent dams with high production and high components. Also selling from Wolfa was a Stromatic daughter from the famous Marq I family, a heifer who calved back in November and goes to the same home.

S & S Braid from the Murthat herd consigned Rattra Julie 528, giving 33 kgs a day and fresh on 13th December, this beautiful uddered heifer sold for 1,500gns to A & DM & N & S Sanderson of Brampton.

A large consignment from Blythbridge Holsteins sold to a top of 1,100gns for a daughter of Blythbridge Hershel giving 35kgs a day and from two 87 point dams.
