At Lockerbie on Thursday 11th October 2007, Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Lockerbie held their annual show and sale of North Country Cheviot breeding rams. Trade was way above expectations and a super clearance of 84% was achieved which is believed to be the best of any breed in the country and a tribute to the quality and popularity of the breed. At the show before hand the judges M/s Hugh and Merv Williams, Pen Groes, Anglessey awarded the championship to M/s James Runciman & Son, Allenshaws, Galashiels which later sold at £2000 to Mr K Stones, Nun Cote Nook. Reserve went to Mr G Milne, Kinaldy with a stylish shearling which sold at £2200 to M/s Pate, Stobshiel Mains. Mrs Jane Jackson, Ericstanes came up trumps with a belter of a sheep which sold at £3000 to Mr A Cowan, Philliphaugh Estates. In the Hill section the judge Mr F S Renwick, Inverbroom, Ullapool awarded the 1st prize to Sorbietrees Farms which later sold at £1000 to Mr C Symons, Attonburn. Top price overall in the Hill section went to Mr Ted Fox, Eldonsburn which sold at £1200 to M/s Dixon, Mowhaugh. Females were in contrast hard to sell with many regular buyers not present. North Country Cheviot gimmers sold to £90 from Broomhillbank. Ewe lambs to £65 from M/s Dunn, Gilson. South Country Cheviot ewes sold to £38 from Mr R H Paton, Castle Crawford with gimmers to £140 to Mr J T Douglas, Hownam Grange Cottage and the same home selling 5 Cheviot ewe lambs at £155. First prize ewe lambs came from Stirkfield Farms, Broughton with 36 lambs which sold at £50. |
