Lazonby Mule Gimmer Lambs

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their first weekly prize show & sale of 12,498 Mule Gimmer Lambs at Lazonby Mart on Wednesday 10th October 2007.

The prize show was kindly sponsored by Lesley Smith Livestock scanning & HSBC Bank with judging undertaken by the father & son team of George & Ian Sowerby, Ormside, Appleby. The following awards were given:-

1st    P L & J Dawson, Kentmere Hall - £145 to G E Carter & Son, Longtown
2nd   G R Wharton & Son, Keisley Farm - £98 to P J Elliott, Mungrisedale
3rd    R H Lord, The Bog Farm - £80 to W & S Kerr, Newton Stewart
4th    J Lee & Sons, Agars Hill - £63 to M T P Wills, Skirwith
5th    N M & C McNally, Mallsflow - £61 to M/s. Mitchell, Lincolnshire
6th    M/s. Thompson, East Unthank - £65 to W & S Kerr, Newton Stewart

The day included several notable achievements with Mr Peter Smith, The Dyke selling a pen of outstanding lambs at £138 each, Mr Geoff Wharton of Keisley Farm first 3 pens sold at £98, £102 & £100 each and the quality of Mr John Allen of Oakbank lambs shone through with a top of £102 each.

In general there was a near total clearance of all the lambs with an overall sale average of £39 each, reflecting the difficult trading circumstances at the moment
