Kirkby Stephen Annual New Fair Prize Show and Sale of
Beef Breeding Cattle & Store Cattle

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held their Annual New Fair Sale of Beef
Breeding Cattle & Store Cattle where there was an entry of 522 head
including 52 geld cows. A larger show of cows were keenly bid for,
peaking at 108.5 p/kg for a Limousin cow from J W Porter & Sons,
Low Oxnop. Top sale price was £724.50 for a Belgian Blue
cross from T G Taylor, The Gilts. An overall average of 82.96 was
recorded.

A prize show was held for the best Cow or Heifer with a calf at foot. Prizes
were kindly sponsored by Taylor & Braithwaite, Sandford and judging
was undertaken by Mr D Dargue, Ettersgill, Teesdale. The following
awards were given:-

Breeding cattle were in fantastic demand & sold to a packed ringside
of customers peaking at £1,480 for a Blonde Aq Cow with heifer
calf from G & J S Richardson, Nunthorpe. Heifers & Calves
averaged £1,108.89 with Cows & Calves at £859.55. A
varied show of stores were equally as good to sell as the previous sale.
