At Borderway Mart on Wednesday 18th January, Harrison and Hetherington
Limited held a special January show and sale of store cattle. An
outstanding entry of 1,522 store cattle, weaned stirks and calves were
forward. A tremendous quality show was presented to bidders from
throughout the UK, resulting in an outstanding trade for all classes
of cattle.
The judging was carried out by Mr John Peckitt of York who awarded the
Championship ticket to a black Limousin cross heifer shown by A & JN
Story of Newbiggin, Kirklinton, which later sold for £780.
The
Reserve Championship ticket went to a red Limousin cross bullock consigned
by GL & AJ Graham of Wydencleughside Farm, Greenhead, Carlisle. This
steer was sired by the registered Limousin bull, Tunnelby Platinum a
son of the famous Tunnelby Monkeytricks sire, and bred from a Limousin
cross mother. He later sold for £570.
Topping the sale
at £920 was a Limousin cross heifer from A & MJ Trafford of
Bassenthwaite Hall Farm, Keswick.
