Texel prices rose to a top of 5,500gns on Saturday 16th December 2006 at the Texel Sheep Society and Solway & Tyne Texel Breeders Club show and sale at Borderway.
Ayrshire breeder John Forsyth of the Glenside flock based at Maybole secured the leading four prices with shearling gimmers. The first, a February born group two gimmer sold in lamb to Glenside Larry Lamb for 5,500gns. Sired by Castlecairn Keltic Star and out of a Glenside His Nibs bred daughter, she sold to Dumfriesshire breeder Karen Irving to join her Kingfisher flock based at Gretna.
Following at 2,500gns from Glenside was the days supreme champion entry. Another daughter of Keltic Star, but this time out of a Turin bred mother, she sold to Winter Bros Farmers Ltd of Appleby in Westmorland. The third entry from Glenside sold for 1,600gns. A geno group one daughter of Keltic Star with Claybury bloodlines in her mothers pedigree, she was knocked down to W & C Jones & Son of Denbigh. The second purchase for Karen Irving was the fourth Glenside gimmer at 1,000gns. Sired by Claybury Invader, she sells in lamb to Castlecairn Keltic Star.
The reserve champion of the days pre-sale show came from Dumfriesshire breeders JR & MA Allen of Lockerbie. Their three shear ewe, a daughter of Tophill Ideal sold for 680gns and goes to J Wood of Trawden, Lancs. Averages - 47 shearling gimmers £489.03, 7 ewes £238.50. |
