The days Supreme Champion ram lamb secured the leading price of 2,500gns at the Suffolk early ram show and sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Wednesday 26th July 2006.

Aberdeenshire breeder, Jimmy Douglas of Woodhead of Cairness consigned the events leading entry. This much admired genotype group one lamb, a son of Glenhead Grandmaster and out of a Glenho Golan bred daughter, was successfully purchased by K & M Linklater for their Bridgepark flock at Selkirk.

Following at 1,500gns was another ram lamb shown by Yorkshire breeder Pamela Lupton of the Kexbeck flock in Ripon. Her January twin born lamb, sired by Manorhouse Hot Spot and bred from a Hambleton Harvest Moon mother, he sold to the Whinhall flock for M Quinn of Kinglasse, Fife.

The shearling ram class was topped at 1,200gns with a sole entry from J Walton & Son of the Roseden flock based at Alnwick, Northumberland. Their genotype group one ram had earlier in the day lifted the reserve supreme championship ticket. Sired by Wells Connection and out of a Cairness The King bred daughter, he was sold to J & J Romans of Stapleford flock based at Okehampton, Devon.

Also reaching over the 1,000gn mark were another two lamb rams selling for 1,100gns each. The first came from the Alloaks flock of MJR & JA Pinny of New College Farm based in Northants. Their January born twin lamb, a son of Stockton Mini Cooper, was knocked down to JN Moor & Son of Nesbit Farm, Wooler.

Also selling for 1,100gns was a lamb shown by local breeder D Jones of the Thurston flock on the edge of Carlisle. A member of the 1st prize winning pair of ram lambs shown at the judging earlier in the day, this genotype group one lamb sired by Cairness Destiny was purchased by Northumberland breeders J Walton & Son for their Roseden flock.

Also on offer was the dispersal sale of the Burndale flock for Derek Henderson of Allendale, Hexham. Leading the consignment was the stock ram Glenho Golan, a 2002 born son of Glenisla Sydney. Selling for 950gns, he was sold to FT & MR Tyler of Barnacre, Garstang for their Tarnside flock.

Following at 600gns was a very stylish group one ewe lamb. A February born twin daughter sired by Glenhead Churchill and out of a Cairness U’ll Do bred mother, she was knocked down to A Wilson of Bowden Moor, Melrose.

Averages – 10 shearling rams £487.20, 3 aged rams £560.00, 43 lamb rams £486.42., Burndale flock – 37 ewes £252.28, 25 shearling gimmers £300.30, 16 ewe lambs £259.88.
