The Annual Sale of Rams on behalf of the Rough Fell Sheep Breeders Association was held at North West Auctions’ Kendal Mart on Saturday 14th October 2006 and was conducted by guest auctioneers Ted Ogden and Maurice Scott from Harrison & Hetherington Ltd.

The days leading bid of 3,500gn came for a shearling ram from Messrs GH Capstick & Sons, Birkhaw, Sedbergh and it joins the flock of Mr V. Guy, Whinfell, Tebay. Messrs Capstick also sold another shearling ram at 1,800gns to Mr RH Thexton, Luneside, Sedbergh.

Mr Norman Dodd, Flakebridge Farm, saw his leading shearling, which had the same sire as the 5,000gn ram sold 2 years ago, knocked down at 2,200gns to Clarke Bros, Park Head. The same vendor also had the champion ram on the day which sold at 900gns to Messrs TW, L& BW Knowles, Hollowgate and I & J Mallinson, Armathwaite.

Mr V Guy, Whinfell weighed in well up the prices selling his pen leading shearling, by the Hollowgate sire, at 2,000gns to Messrs TW, L & BW Knowles.

Mr David Watson, Middleton Hall capped a good day with his quality run of rams peaking at 2,000gns selling to W Beck & Son, Barrugh House.

Aged rams topped at 500gns for GH Capstick & Sons offering bred by Vic Guy which sold to G&ID Postlethwaite, Riddings.

Mr K Milburn, Broadmire, Dent sold a ram lamb by the 5,000gn Flakebridge sire, at 560gn.
