Leading the sale on behalf of the Rouge Sheep Society at their premier event held at Borderwayon Friday 11th Sugust 2006, was a shearling ram consigned by Northern Ireland breeder Samuel Smyth of Randalstown, Co. Antrim.

Selling for 600gns was East of Eden Eagle a group 1 much admired ram sired by East of Eden Catalyst and out of a Mountida sired mother. Eagle already has a show record to his credit from winning 2nd prize Shearling Ram Royal Ulster Show and 4th prize Shearling Ram at Royal Highland Show during this season. He sells to Lincolnshire breeder J.C. Crust of Spilsby.

Following at 500gns was the top price female of the day a Shearling Gimmer also consigned by Northern Ireland breeder Samuel Smyth. Magherabeg Emma, a daughter of Kinsella Dominator, this February born quad was Female Champion of the pre-sale judging. She was successfully purchased by Huw Lloyd of Carmarthenshire.

The Male Champion of the event came from Worcestershire enthusiast Percy Tait of the Knighton Flock. Sired by the imported ram Trucker and out of Wrights Bunny Girl, this January born group 1 shearling ram was purchased by John Lloyd of Oswestry, Shropshire for 480gns

Selling for 450gns was another shearling ram this time shown by James Redfern from Staffordshire. Redfern Ernie a son of Broadwood Dynamo and his mother’s breeding going back to the noted sire Bruiser. His full brother won The Royal Show in 2005 and was exported to Ireland. At 450gns Ernie was knocked down to J.M. Wise of Stockton, Cleveland.

Leading the Lamb Ram section at 410gns was an entry from regular and noted breeder David Jane of the Broadwood Flock based in Somerset. Broadwood Formidable, another son of Dynamo was 2nd prize winner at The Royal Highland Show and 3rd prize winner at The Royal Show this season. He caught the eye of Cumbria breeders J. Charlton & Sons of Cleator Moor.
