A tremendous day’s trading at Harrison & Hetherington’s Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Monday 31st July saw a consignment from the Parkhouse Limousin Herd of Mr T Cheshire, Parkhouse Farm, High Harrington, Workington, Cumbria topping the Sale in spectacular fashion with 21,000gns, 16,000gns and 15,000gns bids respectively.
Best of these was the 21,000gns paid by Smiths of Bloxham, Newlands Farm, Milton Road, Bloxham, Banbury, Oxon for the 1998 born French cow, Ovee B, by Jordy and out of the dam Javeur. She was sold with her Ferry-sired heifer calf at foot, Parkhouse Ayr, and was PD’d in calf to Nobel. Going under the hammer for 16,000gns & 15,000gns were two maiden heifers, both of which were snapped up by Nether Hall Farm Ltd, Nether Hall, Mansergh, Kirkby Lonsdale, Carnforth, Lancs. Nether Hall Farm Ltd continue to build up their 50 head breeding female pedigree Netherhall herd, having bought 3 of the top 4 priced heifers at the Cloughhead & Procters Sale in June, including the 12,000gns Cloughhead Ainsi. At the 16,000gns mark was Parkhouse Angel, a daughter of Nobel and out of French-bred dam, Iska. At 15,000gns was the Ronick Hawk-sired, Parkhouse Adele, who is out of Toscane. This meant the Parkhouse maiden heifer average reached £16,275!
Bidding was brisk when RA Walker, Elm Tree, Asby, Appleby, Cumbria purchased the FOT bull calf, Parkhouse Bonzo, for 7,000gns. This three month old calf showed exceptional growth and muscle for his age and is out of Pepita and by the sire Ferry. He was sold suckling his Charolais cross recipient dam. Commenting on the sale, Tom Cheshire said: “I am delighted that buyers think so highly of our stock, even though the herd has only been established since 2003. You need the right combination of cattle, buyers and a good auctioneer and we had all three today!” The success, however, is tinged with sadness as Tom & Louise have had to give up the tenancy on a farm they took over just three and a half years ago and for the time being will be moving back to the family farm in North Bucks. Heading the Normande Herd consignment – a second major reduction sale - on behalf of Mr & Mrs N Cruickshank, Cowford Farm, Cleghorn, Lanarkshire was the 4,200gns 2001 born cow Aldwyck Sacha. Purchaser of this Hartside Hensingham daughter out of Aldwyck Nadine who was sold with her Ravageur-sired heifer calf at foot, Normande Bracken, was J Thompson, Townfoot, Melmerby, Penrith, Cumbria. Lumbylaw Onoath made 4,000gns when selling to M Docherty, Lass, Carndonagh, Co.Donegal, Ireland. This fifth calver is by Lumbylaw Handsome and out of Lumbylaw Fallible and was sold in calf to Ardnacrusha Uthman. Topping the Montgomery Herd trade on behalf of Mr RB Jones, Llwynobin Farm, Montgomery, Powys was the combination of the suckling heifer, Montgomery Unouche, an April 2003 born daughter of Lasso and out of Minouche who sported a Beef Value of LM+29 alongside her heifer calf, Montgomery Anouche, sired by Mynach Sporty. They made 3,800gns apiece when knocked down to JJ & BA Smith, Priestfield Farm, High Blantyre, Glasgow. Averages Parkhouse Herd Normande Herd Montgomery Herd |
