Wednesday 17th May 2006

A 4000gns bid for Hudscales Arkwright, an April 2005 born bull calf from Messrs W & A Cowx, Hudscales, Hesket-New-Market, Wigton, led the sale of pedigree Limousin Youngstock held at Borderway on Wednesday 17th May 2006.

This young bull was sired by the Tunnelby Monkeytricks son, Gunnerfleet Talker, who was purchased at Carlisle for 11,000gns in 2004. Hudscales Arkwright’s dam is the Homebred Hudscales Skylark whose bull calf sold last year at the corresponding sale for 5200gns at 14 months of age. Purchaser of this young bull, who also had a Beef Value of LM24 was Breconside Farming Partners, Breconside Tower, Moffat who run the Breconside pedigree herd.

The Limousin Youngstock sale also saw consignments from the Beck, Tomschoice and Hafodlas pedigree herds respectively. In all there were five prices in the sale over 2000gns with 24 young bulls averaging £1551 and 8 young maiden heifers averaging £1398

The Hudscales consignment’s second top price was 2800gns paid by the Bello pedigree herd of T Laird & Son, Sunnyside Farm, Cumnock, Ayrshire for the March 2005 born bull Hudscales Argonaut. This young bull was by the Cannon sired Hudscales Rambler and is out of the four-year-old Hudscales Tinkerbell. Argonaut featured a Beef Value of LM23.

Pedigree breeders Messrs Ridley, Haltcliffe, Hesket-New-Market, Wigton bought two lots from the Hudscales offerings. The first was Hudscales Atom purchased for 2200gns. Again sired by Hudscales Rambler, this May 2005 born bull calf is out of the Goldies Gigolo sired dam Hudscales Pandora. This bull’s Beef Value of LM30 placed him in the top 10% of recorded Limousin animals. The Ridleys second purchase was the 1800gns paid for another May 2005 born son of Hudscales Rambler named Hudscales Austin. This young bull is out of the nine year old dam Hudscales Nancy who is sired by MMB Fanfaron.

The Hudscales Rambler sons sold well and Hudscales Attila continued this trend when selling for 1800gns. Out of Hudscales Nan, this year old bull sold locally to WL & JH Barnes & Sons, Todhillrigg, Longtown, Carlisle.
