SALE OF LIMOUSIN HEIFERS FROM THE MYNACH, CORNSAY, LOWBARN & PENRHOS HERDS
Friday 17th February 2006

A Sale on behalf of four pedigree Limousin herds was held on Friday 17th February 2006 at Borderway prior to the major Bull Sale and saw a lively trade with an almost total clearance of the lots forward. In all, 65 heifers averaged £1452 for a total sale gross of £94,382.

The day’s leading price was the 4,000gns paid for Mynach Velvet brought forward by ED Griffiths & Co, Cilgryman-Fawr, Cwmfelin, Mynach, Whitland, Carmarthen. This May 2004 born maiden heifer is by the classy Mynach Sporty and out of Mynach Opal and was purchased by Messrs Jones, Hirdre Uchaf, Edern, Pwllheli, Gwynedd for their Dweiliog pedigree herd.

Another maiden heifer from the Mynach offering took the second best price of 3,950gns. Mynach Valeri has full French parentage and is a daughter of Sarrasin and out of Oreole and was snapped up by Laga Farms Ltd, Arwick, Evie, Orkney.

TW Roberts & Son, Malt House Farm, St.Mellons Road, Lisvane, Cardiff paid 3,000 and 2,800gns respectively for two further lots. Mynach Uletide, a served heifer in calf to Sable, is herself by Mynach Ringo and out of Mynach Mistletoe. The maiden heifer, Mynach Viola, is a Sarrasin daughter and out of homebred dam Mynach Sweatpea.

Top call for the Cornsay consignment on behalf of Messrs WI Suddes & Sons, South Farm, Cornsay, Co Durham was the 3,800gns bid for Cornsay Vertex again by Laga Farms Ltd, Arwick, Evie, Orkney. Cornsay Vertex is by the French sire Papin and out of the French dam Radotee. Laga Farms also snapped up another Papin daughter, Cornsay Vanessa – this time out of the French dam Pamela – for 1,400gns.

TW Roberts & Son purchased two further Papin-sired Cornsay heifers for 1,450 and 1,400gns respectively with the Cornsay contingent of 26 maiden heifers averaging a pleasing £1,078.27. TW Roberts & Son were once more final bidders for two served heifers from Messrs Vaughan, Coedcefnlas Farms, Crymych, Dyfed: Preselihill Urchin at 2,600gns and Preselihill Uptowngirl at 2,200gns.

There was keen interest for the Penrhos heifers sold by Messrs BC & JW Evans, Penrhos, Trefeglwys, Powys Herd with 7 maiden heifers averaging £1,522.50. Best of these was the 2,300gns Geufron Virginia bought by KD Harryman, Keskadale, Newlands Valley, Keswick, Cumbria. July 2004 born, she is by Namkrik Nelson and out of Geufron Olwen. Also heading to the Harrymans’ holding is Geufron Vivid – by Garyvaughan Simon and out of Geufron Rachel – this time for 1,950gns. Geufron Vonda, a daughter of Garyvaughan Simon and out of Namkrik Olive was knocked down for 2,000gns to Mrs R Stevenson, Howgill Foot, Kaber, Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria.
