The small but selective line up of Herefords at the Annual Traditional Breed Sale held at Carlisle on Friday 26th May 2006, was led by a 1,850gn transaction for the 2nd prize bull Romany 1 Breakaway a rising two year old from JRB Wilson & Sons of Cow Bog, Kelso. Breakaway was purchased by TW Thwaytes & Son of Hoff, Appleby. The same exhibitor also produced an 1800gn bull in the shape of Romany 1 Boomerang, another similar aged bull by the same sire and he was purchased by DJ Ord of Alnwick, Northumberland. Leading the female section was an in calf heifer from PJ & AC Allman of Dunblane, Perthshire. Greenyards 1 Diamond, a June 2004 born heifer sired by Free Town Regent and bred from the Betty Ellis Diamond family, she sold for 1,300gns going to Sam Hamilton of Lockerbie. Messrs Allman also consigned the next top price female which sold for 1,050gns. Old Doune 3 Prude, another in calf heifer, a daughter of Broatch 1 Charles and was purchased by Messrs Ball of Winkhill, Leek. The sale included the dispersal sale of the Harrington Hill herd sold on behalf of Tom and Louise Cheshire. Harrington Park 1 Wynn 477, an incalf heifer sired by Onondaga 926Y Ensign 21E and bred out of a Chapelton mother, she was sold for 1,000gns and bought by SG Hall of Haswell, Co.Durham. Averages
