Local breeder John Stott of Hilltop, Hesket new Market, sold the top price of the day at the Blonde Society annual autumn show and sale at Carlisle on Friday.

Felltop Archy - 6,000gns
Felltop Archy

Felltop Archy, a July 2005 born son of Bradbury Evan and out of an Everest bred mother, caught the eye of Northern Ireland breeders Hillhead Blondes to join their herd based at Ballynahinch, Co.Down, for 6,000gns. Archy, the youngest bull in the sale, had earlier in the day won his class and also lifted the reserve overall male and supreme championship awards, along with the trophy for the best turned out animal and the society trophy for the best entry from a breeder with ten or less breeding females. These add to his achievements of one championship and two reserve championships he has won throughout the summer shows this season.

Fronfedw Arawn - 5,000gns

Following at 5,000gns was the first of four entries shown by Welsh breeder Danny Davies of Lampeter, Dyfed. Fronfedw Arawn was the events senior male, overall male and supreme champion and is full brother to the supreme champion from this years Royal Welsh Show. Arawn is sired by Fronfedw Rhyd-y-Beirdd, the newly crowned Blonde Society Best Stock bull for 2006 in their recent national herd competition. He also travels across the water to Northern Ireland for Sean McCloskey of Co.Londonderry.

A junior bull from Lancashire breeders PJ & ES Rogerson of Chipping, Preston sold their July 2005 born bull, Castleview Albert for 4,500gns. Albert, a son of Ryneside Randy and out of a Whistley Dollar sired mother, was secured by DG & EM Jones & Son of Whole House Farm, Brecon.

South West breeder David Knight of Bristol sold to a top of 3,500gns with his consignment of four entries forward. Doncombe Aga Khan, a son of the noted stock bull Druk Lance and out of Doncombe Nicolet a Druk Leo bred mother, was sold to join the Ivaniskey herd based near Co.Down, Norther Ireland for Mrs MR McElroy.

Reaching the 3,000gn mark was a June 2005 born bull shown by regular exhibitor Peter de Giles of Ashford, Kent. Bilsington Argent, a son of Bilsington Snowdon and from a homebred cow by Ravensworth Mitchel, he went to the firm of Thomas Epps of Ardnave Farm, Isle of Islay.

In the female classes, the female champion secured the leading price of 3,000gns shown by west cumbrian breeders JF & C Saunders from Ulverston. Maidenlands Verity, a very attractive daughter of Fronfedw Scott and going back to Gala Highlander on her mothers side, she joins the Hillhead Blonde herd in Co.Down.

At 2,000gns was the reserve female champion Hilltop Abi shown by Andrew and Carol Stott from Corby Hill, Carlisle. She already has a championship award to her credit from her only show outing this summer. A daughter to the noted Kinaston Nyle bull, Abi now joins the Allerston herd of RT Ward from New South Farm, Pickering.

Averages - 13 bulls £3,129.81 (plus £353.14), 2 cows served and/or suckling £1,286.25 (n/c), 1 served heifer £1,470.00 (n/c), 6 maiden heifers £1,758.75 (n/c).
