CARLISLE BLONDES TOP AT 6,000GNS The British Blonde Society Carlisle May sale on Saturday 13th May 2006 saw the judge for the day Mr W E Thompson of Nether Glasslaw, Fraserburgh, give the Supreme Championship to Whitefield Veejay put forward for show and sale by the Society Chairman Mr Eric Mutch, owner of the Whitefield herd at Forglen, Banff. Veejay a Bilsington Nelson son and out of a Whitefield Olivia dam, strode out in the judging ring and took the Supreme Championship honour and then went on to make the sales top price of 6,000gns and was knocked down to Messrs Gamble and Rigg, Sharplaw, Kelso. Next top price of 3,600gns put forward by E Telfer and son was Stocksfield Viagraman standing second in his class and selling to A Gourlay and Co of Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire. The Overall Reserve Champion was K Jacksons Stubbswalden Voltaire, a Whitefield Leader son and selling to G Johnstone and son of Great Orton, Carlisle. The Junior Championship was won by P Weightman and Sons of Peterlee, Co Durham. Their October 04 bull, Hallfield Vice, sired by Megray Serendipity and out of Hallfield Primrose a Ballygowan Noble daughter, sold to D Holiday of Clapham, Lancaster. Reserve Junior position went to Doncombe Abracadabra, sired by Rodleigh Singer and out of Rodleigh Orchid, put forward for sale by David Knight and purchased by B Frances of Welshpool. The top price female was J & M Gibbs Broomley Valery, a Hackleton Phoenix daughter, selling to Mike Harrison of West Sleddale , Shap, for 2,600gns. The Champion Female (pictured above) was brought forward by JPG Lewis & Co of Aberystwyth. Ystwyth Ulrika, a June 03 heifer sired by Levant and shown with its March 06 heifer calf at foot by Whitefield Leader, was purchased by RT Ward of Pickering, North Yorkshire , for 2,200gns. From the same stable came Ystwyth Ursula, an August 03 heifer again sired by Levant , selling with her April 06 bull calf at foot to Miss Victoria Howells of Hereford . Miss Howells was the winner of the British Blonde Society Stock Judging Photo Competition featured in the Farmers Guardian and winning the £750 first prize of which she put to purchase Ystwyth Ursula to start her new Mymyddbrith herd, in Hereford.
