REPORT

Females dominated the trade for the autumn show and sale of Aberdeen Angus cattle at Borderway Mart, Carlisle on Wednesday 4th October 2006.

Leading the event was a cow and calf outfit consigned by local breeders Malcolm and Linda Wilson of the Housenrigg herd based at Aspatria, Carlisle. Selling at 3,800gns was Windyhill Equidora Z014, a fourth calved daughter of Galcantry Preditor. She sold along with her heifer calf Windyhill Equidora F114 sired by Windsole Black Bandit, and went to Messrs Watson Jones Ltd of Newport, Shropshire.

Also from the Windyhill stable came the next two leading prices for the female entries. Firstly going for 2,800gns came the days Female and Reserve Supreme Champion Windyhill Miss Brayton D085 a daughter of the renowned Dalrene Cruz. Selling in calf to Idvies Proud Irate she went to A Hurn & Ptrs of Beck Farm, Norwich.

Following at 2,600gns was another cow and calf outfit, Windyhill Miss Brayton A015 and her heifer calf Windyhill Miss Burtha. This pairing was purchased by JS Fleming of South Milton, Newton Stewart.

The dispersal sale of the Limeview herd from Nithsdale Country Larder Ltd of Kirkconnel, saw six from their consignment reaching the 2,000gn mark and over. An in calf heifer, Limeview Ella D396 a daughter of Netherton Friar Fergie and out of a Netherton Charles bred mother, she was sold in calf to Lord Ross and went for 2,400gns to Messrs Watson Jones Ltd of Shropshire. Messrs Watson Jones Ltd, also purchased another five lots over the 2,000gns from the Limeview herd.

The sale also included the dispersal of the Fresh herd shown by Ruth Stevenson of Howgillfoot, Kirkby Stephen. Topping this consignment at 1,800gns was Netherton Frances W19 and her bull calf Fresh Francisco. Frances, an eighth calved cow sired by Royal Stockman, sold in calf to Auchincrieve Elsinore and travels north to Aberdeenshire for Mrs V Higgins of Insch.

Leading the bull classes was appropriately the male and supreme champion. Shown by Nithsdale Country Larder Ltd, Limeview Everest E375 is a son of Nightingale Regent and bred from a Wedderlie Pridwell sired daughter. Everest is no stranger to the show ring as he has already collected this season the reserve male championship at the Royal Welsh Show and champion at Dumfries Show. He sold for 2,800gns going to HP Gostling & Sons of Western Green, Norfolk.
