Lady Croft Bold Lad secured a top price of 8,000gns of the Annual Spring Show & Sale of Pedigree Aberdeen Angus bulls and females at Carlisle on Friday 26th May 2006.

Shown by Kinross breeder BM Hayward of Wester Aldie, 24 month old Bold Lad a son of The Moss Fenton and out of a Lady Croft Paladin bred daughter, who is a half sister to the 2002 Royal Highland Show Breed and Inter-breed Champion. Bold Lad was taken home by local top bidder F Awde of Melmerby, Penrith for the top price of 8,000gns.

The day’s Reserve Male and Reserve Supreme Champion bull Haymount Galico from Borders breeders Tom and Wendy Arnott of Kelso, realised the next highest price when he went under the hammer for 4,800gns. An October 2004 born son of Windyhill Equinox out of Galatia of Haymount he sold to Messrs. Maxwell of Thornhill, Dumfriesshire.

Aberdeenshire breeders Neil Massie & Sons of Blelack based near Aboyne sold the next leading price bull at 4,500gns. Blelack Tyrant, a June 2004 born son of Blelack Blacksmith and going back to the Blackridge family on his mother’s pedigree, he was knocked down to Glenapp Farms Limited, of Ballantrae Ayrshire.

Glenapp Farms also took home Duncanziemere Duke from Alistair Clark of Cumnock, Ayrshire at 3,400gns. An April 2004 born Nightingale Pasacall son he was out of KBJ Duchess.

Drumdow Rambo from Messrs. W & EI Brown of Turnberry, Girvan, realised 3,500gns when he was knocked down to A Thomson & Co, of Caste Douglas. Sired by The Moss Etambo, Rambo goes back to Drumdow breeding on his female pedigree.

Female prices peaked at 2,600gns when Playfair Farms of Clifton on Bowmont, Kelso snapped up the maiden heifer Hardlawbank Frances shown by RH Dick & Sons of Holywood, Dumfries. Frances herself is a descendant of the famous Netherton Frances line of females, a full sister to the heifer was Female Champion and Reserve Overall Champion at the Solway Calf Show.

A draft sale from Dacre Herd of Mrs PA Holliday of Harrogate, North Yorkshire produced a top price of 2800gns when the hammer went down to JC Lister Farms of Yorkshire. Dacre Eulovable, a Fordel Eisenhower daughter sold along with her January 2006 born heifer calf a daughter of Wrae Bonanza Boy.

A consignment from the Lady Croft Herd on behalf of Messrs Hayward sold to a top of 2,800gns for Lady Croft Valour a July 2003 born heifer selling in calf to Hurdcott Estimator. A daughter of The Moss Fenton and out of a Lady Croft Beauty Lad bred mother, Valour is from the same female line as Lady Croft Verice who was winner of the National Aberdeen Show in 2005. She was knocked down to Messrs Gostling & Sons of Aylsham, Norfolk.
