DAIRY CATTLE SALE REPORTS 2006

The last Border & Lakeland Holstein club show and sale of the season held on Wednesday 13th December saw a fine selection of correct functional heifers suitable for our large dairy operations along with one or two special individuals, with trade slightly up on the month to show an average of over £1,200 for the heifers sold. On Wednesday 6th December Harrison & Hetherington Ltd held a dispersal sale on behalf of R & M Hunter, Thorneyscale, Brough, Kirkby Stephen. [report]
The 20th Borderway Black & White Sale is now down in the history books! Holstein enthusiasts from all over the UK and the continent converged for this, one of the most exciting catalogues ever produced here at Borderway. Elite genetics were dispersed throughout Europe to France, Spain, Switzerland, Republic of Ireland and throughout the United Kingdom. [report]
The herd of Countesswells Holsteins came under the hammer at Borderway on Wednesday 18th October. Many great families had been developed throughout more than thirty-five years in the business and were purchased by breeders both north and south of the border. [report]
Another gradual increase in the dairy trade at Borderway for the Border & Lakeland Club Sale on Wednesday 18th October. Ten animals realised over 1,500gns up to a top of 2,000gns to average £1239.86. [report]
The dispersal sale of 148 milk recorded Holsteins for PA Arbuckle & Sons, Lundie Castle, Dundee on Friday 13th October clearly indicated the demand for exceptional commercial dairy cattle. [report]
Colin Taylor, South Walton Farm, Newton Mearns joined with many friends and Holstein Friesian breeders to disperse the first section of his Craiglea Herd of pedigree dairy cattle. His focus on high type, high production and longevity was evident to see at Borderway on Wednesday 13th September. [report]
An increase of almost 10% was the apparent trade at the Border & Lakeland Club Sale on Wednesday 13th September at Borderway. A large crowd gathered to see the uniquely diverse range of quality fresh dairy cattle sell through the ring. [report]
Record prices and crowds made the 18th Annual Evening Bull Sale one to remember at Borderway on Monday 11th September. Nineteen bulls made over 2,000gns to a top of and centre record of 7,700gns for a dairy bull and an average of nearly 2,100gns made the sale an undoubted success. [report]
The dispersal of the youngstock selection of the well known Meikle Laught herd of pedigree Ayrshires sold through the ring at Borderway on Wednesday 23rd August. [report]
The first of an amalgamated coloured breeds sale was an undoubted success on Wednesday 23rd August. The 24th Gold Top Show & Sale for the Lakes Counties Jersey Cattle Club along with the 14th Red & White Sale for the Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Ayrshire Breeders club saw all mature cattle to average over £1,000. The Loughdale Dispersal Sale at Borderway Mart on Wednesday 2nd August attracted buyers from the South of England to the very North of Scotland and Northern Ireland. [report]
Trade remained strong for the limited supply of fresh dairy heifers and cows at the Border & Lakeland Club Sale on Wednesday 14th June. [report]
A 4,500gns bid from K & M Jamieson, Woodhead, Annan for Stannock Dante Riveria, led the dispersal sale of the Stannock herd of Pedigree and PI Holstein cattle for Messrs G M McIlwraith & Co., on Wednesday 24th May. [report]
History was made at the EX Factor Sale on Saturday 20th May when Harrison & Hetherington Limited were the first Auctioneers in the UK to EXport live cattle both East and West over the borders to Spain and Southern Ireland respectively and to smash the current Jersey UK Top price paid for a pedigree Jersey, all in one day![report]
As the rest of the country will agree trade for dairy cattle is red hot. Demand is currently exceeding supply and this resulted in the average of £1221.38, the highest average for 6 months at the Border & Lakeland Club Show & Sale on Wednesday 17th May. [report]
The Lakes Counties Jersey Cattle Club hosted the Tenth Spring Gold Top Sale at Borderway on Wednesday 26th April. Consignments were made both locally from Cumbria, Yorkshire & Lancashire. [report]
The Border & Lakeland Club Show & Sale on Wednesday 19th April saw a smaller selection of milking animals with a special selection of youngstock on offer with trade remaining strong for fresh milking animals. [report]
The Taura Dispersal Sale for RI Henderson, Stocksfield, Northumberland, was well supported by neighbours and other Holstein enthusiasts throughout the country on Wednesday 29th March. [report]
An impressive selection of bulls from the world’s leading cow families congregated in Borderway on Wednesday 15th March for the 3rd Spring Holstein Bull Sale. [report]
The Border & Lakeland Holstein Club Show & Sale hosted another great turn out by all consignors involved on Wednesday 15th March. Demand, paralleled with a reduced supply, made for progressive trade remaining strong. [report]
The Moss Hall sale on Wednesday 1st March comprised a herd of strong milk recorded dairy cows mostly calved back in September. [report]
The demand for fresh milking Holsteins was evident from the Border & Lakeland Holstein Club Sale on Wednesday 15th February. Sixty-one animals sold to average £1100.01 to a top of 2,000gns. [report]
At the first Border & Lakeland Sale of 2006 on Wednesday 18th January, very smart and consistently milky fresh heifers and young cows went under the hammer and met a demand and trade to match resulting in a total sell out to average nearly £1,150 for all cows and heifers. [report]
