The 20th Borderway Black & White Sale is now down in the history books! Holstein enthusiasts from all over the UK and the continent converged for this, one of the most exciting catalogues ever produced here at Borderway, Carlisle. Elite genetics were dispersed throughout Europe to France, Spain, Switzerland, Republic of Ireland and throughout the United Kingdom. This tremendous sale went on to average 4,300gns for 70 holsteins and over £3160 for 6 jerseys.

Denmire Shottle Marie, publicised as one of the stars of the sale, made dreams a reality for the Willsbro herd of Messrs Wills, Cornwall. This outstanding heifer commanded the top price of 17,000gns. This heifer descends from one of the most prolific transmitting families developed in the UK. Bred from 3 EX94 Dams all producing over 100 tonnes of milk, this pedigree is unmatched across the globe. Regular consignors, JW &M Dennison “Denmire Holsteins” wish Willsbro every success in developing this great family in their herd.

Sheikha Noora Bint Isa Alkhalifa of “Sahara Holsteins” purchased the opportunity of either a Dundee or Shottle from the All American Snr 2Yr Old 2005, Vandyk-K Integ Paradise 2 VG89 for 14,000gns. Pedigree announcer, Roger Turner, said “Paradise 2 VG89 could be Supreme Champion at World Dairy Expo 2007”. This exciting lot was consigned by Smiddiehill Holsteins, Wolverhampton, Shropshire.

Sterndale Holsteins, WJ Nadin & Co, Derbyshire, consigned a choice from the Nominated All-American Aged Cow 2005, Budjon-JK Encore Electra EX95. Sired by Durham and born early November Henllan Farms, Caeremlythn, Carmarthenshire were the successful bidders for 12,000gns.

The first choice Comestar Stormatic from four embryos due in February 2007 from arguably Broker Elegance’s best daughter, Budjon-JK Linjet Eileen EX96. This consignment was offered by David Robinson, Cockermouth, Cumbria, Kellywell Holsteins, and was purchased for 10,000gns by Henllan Farms, Caeremlytn, Carmarthenshire.

The French Connection in the UK (FCUK) was made by Jean-Luc Demas and Arnaud Botrel, France. The top price of four cattle going to France was Skyhigh Durham Adeena purchased for 10,000gns by the syndicate of Rey Holsteins, Switzerland, Ferme du Tombuy, France and Tippex journalist Arnaud Botrel, France. This Durham daughter from the Nominated All American 4Yr Jnr 3Yr Kingstead Chief Adeen EX94 was consigned by Mark Shadwick, Dalston, Cumbria. Her full sister, Skyhigh DRM Adeen PI, sold for 6,000gns to top Northern Ireland breeders Steven Haffey, Lurgan, Co Armagh, Northern Ireland.

Picston Duplex Shoes is destined for Spain under the expert eye of agent Quim Seberabassa for 3,200gns. This February born Duplex daughter and out of a VG88 Mtoto grand daughter of the twice nominated Holstein International’s Global Cow of the Year 2005 & 2006 Condon Aero Sharon EX91 56*. From Picston Shottle’s family, this stylish heifer was consigned by Spotacre Farms, Stone, Staffordshire.

Topping the Jersey section was a first choice from the renowned All Canadian Duncan Belle EX93-3E 16* from top Northern Ireland Jersey breeders the Potterswalls Jerseys Fleming Family, Seaforde, Co Down. Sired by Rapid Bay Just Wait, this 4,100gns choice paid by Designer Jerseys, Nortons, Radley Green, Essex will be a full sister to Potterswalls Just Belle VG89 2Yr.

The second top price and first top price live jersey was the last catalogued lot consigned by Grayridge Jerseys of David Gray, Drumtall Farm, East Kilbride, Glasgow. This awesome baby September calf was sired by Duncan Jude and out of Canada’s most prolific show breeding family from the Avonlea Kittys’ backed up with 4 generations of straight Excellent dams. Successful purchaser and consignor to the sale were G&K Jamieson, Annan Holsteins, Annan, Dumfries for 3700gns.
