The first of an amalgamated coloured breeds sale was an undoubted success on Wednesday 23rd August 2006 at Borderway Mart, Carlisle. The 24th Gold Top Show & Sale for the Lakes Counties Jersey Cattle Club along with the 14th Red & White Sale for the Cumberland & Dumfriesshire Ayrshire Breeders club saw all mature cattle to average over £1,000.
The top price of the day went to the champion jersey from Matthew & Catherine Ralston, Rhoin Farm, Campbeltown. This Wellhead Dreamers Squidgy EX91(Royal Show Champion) grand daughter Braymeadow Pitinos Mistress sold for 2,250gns. An undisclosed buyer purchased this 1st prize heifer in milk. The Reserve Champion, also consigned by Matthew & Catherine Ralston was Rhoin Perimeter Pandora VG85. This Rock Ella Perimeter daughter, was 2nd & Res Champion East Kilbride Show 2005 and 2nd Gentic Merit Agri-Scot 2005. This freshly calved young cow in her second lactation was sold to the judge of the show Mr Jim McGarva, Horse Close, Dumfries for 1700gns.
The second top price of the day was 2,000gns for Grayridge Royal Legacy consigned by David Gray and exhibited by Jim Gray, Drumtall Farm, East Kilbride. Sired by Molly Brook Fusion, this freshly calved heifer was a daughter of Grahmar Lemvig Legacy EX90 who was Supreme Interbreed Champion Royal Show 2003 and the Royal Highland Show 2003. She was purchased by S&S Murray, Shipley Bank Farm, Wolverhampton. Clydevalley Ringmaster Luita realised 1,050gns for consignor Miss Alison Hunter, West Tarbrax, Shotts. This real stylish show heifer by Family Hill Ringmaster was purchased by Designer Jerseys, Radley Green, Essex.
The Red & White Show and Sale was topped by the Champion Middle Major Mr consigned by Messrs J Whiteford & Sons, Middle Farm, Ruleholme, Brampton. The show was professionally judged by Mr Watson, High Mark Farm, Ayrshire. This fresh heifer was sired by Middle Mitzy Ranger and was sold to Mr A Gray, Langside Farm, Kirkfieldbank, Lanark for 1,600gns. The Reserve Champion Morwick Jordan Nell Red, consigned by DA Howie & Sons sold to RD Young, Waterside, Kinbuck, Dunblane. This freshly calved Ja-Bob Jordan Red heifer sold for 1400gns.
Regular consignors Da Howie & Sons followed up the leading prices with 1350gns for Morwick Bluebell 34. Sired by Morwick Swordsman Red this fresh heifer sold to H&DM Forster, East Wharmley, Hexham. Going to the same home was Stevenson’s Elizabeth 34, consigned by MW & A Stevenson, Dunragit, Stranraer. This Brocklehill Burnished Gold heifer sold for 1250gns. The Sandwath selection of young stock from DL & SR Dargue, Kirkby Stephen averaged £477.75 for 26 maiden heifers.Leading Prices The 24th Lakes Counties Show & Sale
