An impressive selection of bulls from the world’s leading cow families congregated in Borderway on Wednesday 15th March 2006. The show was kindly sponsored by Coomara Veterinary Practice, Carlisle with the prizes presented by Graham Brooks. The line-up of winners was selected, expertly by Jim Hull, “Fortland” Holsteins.

Annandale

The Champion & Reserve Champion both were Annandale bred bulls. The Champion was Annandale Jordan by Annandale Leosteen from the big component Brynhyfrd Janie family. He realised 3,100gns and sold into the herd of Mr I Ellithorn, Riddings Farm, Longtown. The Reserve Champion, Annandale Seattle Flew PI sold for 3,000gns. Sired by Kellywell Fred Devon, and from the renowned Grandchester Farrah family, he now heads north to Georth Farms, Georth, Evie, Orkney.

Top Price
Philip Davies with Gornal TipTop with auctioneers Glyn Lucas & Andrew Templeton

The top price of the day was 3,600gns for Gornal Tip Top, a Gornal Peagsus son. Six straight generations of Excellent from the renowned Gornal Spot Ada family was well recognised and appreciated by the buyer T Mactaggart, Rascarrel Farm, Auchencairn, Castle Douglas. The Spot Ada family is one of the best British families for overall index, type and production.

Another deep pedigree bull from 5 straight generations of excellent cows was Carrock Dynamo consigned by Messrs Brough, Dalston, Carlisle. Sired by Regancrest Elton Durham and from the famous Margot family this 3rd prize bull sold to the partners Jim Currie & Son, Carlinside Holsteins, Lanark and Jim Reid, Bengal Farms, Lockerbie.

Blackisle bred Seaforth by Finatalex Norman consigned by AH Mann & Son, Avoch, Rosshire, sold for 3,000gns. Originating from the prolific Laura BFE92 3E family, this young bull now joins the herd of J Drummond, Townend, Craigie, Kilmarnock.

Honorable Mention and second in the Senior bull class was Wolfa Imprint. Sired by Comestar Stormatic, and from 5 generations of straight excellent dams from the heart of the Brynhyfyrd Irene family. He sold for 2,300gns to R Brough, Langfauld, Langrigg, Aspatria.
