Border & Lakeland Holstein Club Show & Sale

The first Border & Lakeland Sale of 2006 saw very smart and consistently milky fresh heifers and young cows go under the hammer and the scrutiny of the judge of Mr William Fleming of Hillhead Holsteins, Kirkpatrick Fleming. They met a demand and trade to match resulting in a total sell out to average nearly £1,150 for all cows and heifers. Six made over 1,500gns two being over 2,200gns.

Champion

A fair measure of the skill of the judges eye was vindicated in the sale ring because the champion, a very stylish 2 Yr old heifer from the Harrison Family’s highly respected “Crossrigg Herd”. The top price and Champion was Crossrigg Attention Lucy by Weeton Attention is bred from the Ewefields Lucy family from generations of high yielding dams by top sires including Progress, Charles and Raider. Top show successes were also in the pedigree with the maternal sister to the third dam being Grand Champion at the 2005 Northern Expo amongst a host of other Championship titles. She sold for 2,300gns to RD Fleming, Hillhead, Kirkpatrick Fleming.

The Reserve Champion Stowbeck Paymaster Mavis, three weeks calved giving 37kgs sported the sort of pedigree so much in demand these days – namely a succession of dams with consistent production, decent type and longevity. Stowbeck Paymaster Mavis sired by Crackholm Comestar Paymaster and bred from at least three generations of EX or VG cows realised 2,250gns. DG & AD Morgan & Hughes, Cumnock were the successful purchasers.

Rhoin Jayson Jean consigned by Matthew & Catherine Ralston, Campbeltown, realised 1,550gns. This very stylish heifer sired by Genus Jayson heads back to Campbeltown for Mr A Pirie & Sons, Machrinanish Farm.

Also at 1,550gns was Stowbeck Igniter Lydia 3. Bred from at least three generations of VG and 11,200kg dams this heifer consigned by Skirwith Hall Farms was sold to DG & AD Morgan & Hughes, Cumnock.
