Lazonby Breeding Rams & Females
Saturday 7th October 2006

At the annual sale of rams held by Harrison & Hetherington at Lazonby Mart on Saturday 7th October 2006 it was the annual consignment of Bluefaced Leicester rams from P L & J Dawson, Kentmere Hall flock that led the bidding.

The shearling ram by the homebred V5 sire out of a Lunesdale P30 ewe which goes back to the Keer bloodline was knocked down at £2,800 to Weardale breeders M & B Coulthard, Bridge End. Messrs Dawson also had 3 other rams sell at four figure prices.

Dispersing his flock was Mr E R Smith, Parsons Shield whose stock ram which was breed by Messrs Lord, Hewgill sold at £1,800 to Messrs F & M Moore, Highside.

Messrs Moores Ashcleugh flock then sold a ram lamb by the homebred S1 at £1,600 to Messrs A & C Ivinson, Beckside Farm. Messrs McNally, Annshill brought out a ram lamb by a homebred sire this sold at £1,300.

The champion ram on the day a shearling came from W & I Watson, Sanders Close who received the Annshill Leicester Trophy, was by a Carry House sire and sold at £700.

The Swaledale ram section saw the most interest shown for a few years with over 90% of the entry sold. The presale show was kindly judged by Mr D Nelson and the prizes generously given by Ken Newton Farm Supplies, Messes McNally and Messes Edgar.
