Carlisle Euro Breeding Sheep Sale On Monday 28th August 2006 at Borderway Mart, Harrison & Hetherington held their Annual Euro sale of 3217 Continental breeding sheep. In general there was a strong trade for quality sorts especially in the shearling section and a full ringside of bidders were in attendance.
The pre-sale judging was carried out by Mr David Bell of Low Houses, Low Row, Brampton who presented the championship award to a pen of Texel cross ewe lambs consigned by Messrs Osborne of Castlehill, Thornhill which later sold for £150 per head. The reserve championship ticket went to a pen of Beltex cross ewe lambs shown by Mr TP Wigham, Hargill House, Haltwhistle. Messrs Wight of Midlock sold the top price at £260 each for a pen of very attractive Texel cross shearling gimmers. Dallas Keith Ltd very kindly sponsored the prize show and the following awards were given - Class 1, Pen of 10 Texel cross ewe lambs – 1st R&J Osborne, Castle Hill £150, 2nd AG Dempster, Castlehill £75, 3rd J Oliver & Sons, Walton Wood Head £78. Class 2, Pen of 10 Beltex cross ewe lambs, 1st TP Wigham, Hargill House £60, 2nd RJ&AY Armstrong, Terrace Farm £55, 3rd R&M Harvey, Nether Kier £105. Class 3, Pen of 10 cross ewe lambs by any other continental breed, 1st CP Robb, Dinwwodie Green £62, 2nd J Smithson, Skelcies £70. Class 4, Pen of 10 Texel shearling gimmers – 1st J Adamson & Son, Swaits £240, 2nd K Wight, Midlock £260, 3rd RD Fleming, Hillhead.
