TOP QUALITY BELTEX X TEXEL BREEDING SHEEP

On Friday 28th August, Harrison & Hetherington held the fifth annual production sale of Texel and Texel cross Beltex breeding sheep on behalf of Messrs Slater from the Whiteley Hey flock.

The reputation of the flocks easy fleshing qualities together great carcases confirmation meant that several new bidders competed with the strong regular customer base.

The first pen of breeding ewes into the ring set the trend realising a marvellous £210 to Messrs Davies of Llan Farm whilst a pen of ewe lambs also reached £150 to regular purchaser Mr S Bindloss of Shap Abbey.

In the tup section the 1000gn barrier was broken three times topping at 1500gns. The leading price tag was secured by Messrs D & S Wadland of Valley View Farm, Daventry. Rams were sold to all parts of the United Kingdom with Scottish and Welsh purchasers competing strongly as rams sold averaged an excellent £485.

Leading prices:- Ewes, £210, £140, £130 (x2), £120, £100. Shearlings, £140, £120 (x2), £110, £100 (x2). Ewe lambs, £150, £110, £100, £98, £90 (x4), £88.


The annual production sale of Texel and Texel x Beltex Rams

On Friday 25th August 2006, Harrison & Hetherington conducted the fourth production sale of 40 Texel and Beltex cross shearling rams on behalf of Thomas and James Whiteford of Tercrosset Farm.

An outstanding show of rams were on offer exhibiting power, skin, length and shape all the attributes required for todays commercial and pure breeders.

The top price of this consignment was 2,400gns for a much admired pure bred Texel shearling which has already got show success behind him winning the Overall Champion Texel award at a local show earlier this month. Successful bidder was Mrs PE Starkey of Elgendon, Elloughton, East Yorkshire.

This was closely followed by a three quarter bred Beltex shearling which sold for 2,200gns and went to Messrs J Knight of Church Style, Wasdale.

Leading prices – 2,400gns, 2,200gns, 1,400gns, 1,100gns, 1,000gns (x2), 950gns, 900gns, 850gns (x4), 800gns, 750gns (x3), 720gns, 700gns (x2).

40 rams sold averaged £816.
