Beef Breeding cattle were seen to be the hottest trade for years with buyers very keen on all sorts, from heifers with calves to calving heifers. Top price of the day was held by Messrs Dickinson of High Knipe £1600 for a ¾ bred Limousin heifer suckling a 7/8 Limousin bull calf at foot. Second top price was £1550 from Messrs D Elliott of Bank House, Penrith being a Limousin cross Friesian 2nd calved cow with a Limousin bull calf at foot. In the calving heifer section which was strong for quality it has to be noted a consignment of Limousin cross Friesian heifers all in calf to Ronick Hawk for May from Messrs TW Armstrong & Sons of Broomhills topped at £900 and averaged £845 for the run. All units sold averaged £1064.27. A cracking show of bulling heifers were forward with clients keen for quality and size. Trade for quality was as dear as seen for some time with top price of the day going to a cracking pen of five Belgian Blue cross Friesian heifers consigned by Mr Ken Muir of Middle Farm, Laithes which sold for £1000 per head.
